Happy 2014 everyone!

January 2, 2014 By Dan Finnen

I’m a bit behind the times due to a little stomach flu that decided to pay me a post-Christmas visit, but this wouldn’t be a blog without New Year’s Eve/Year In Review Blog Post(TM). For some reason, I initially felt like I didn’t have that much to report, but looking back, 2013 was a huge year for me. So much has changed that it feels like it all happened over a span of multiple years rather than just one. We’ve come a long way since 2012.

On the entrepreneurial side of things, John Sexton joined the DistractChicago.com family and we mighty-morphed into Polymyth Productions LLC. Our company entered its third year growing steady and strong. We worked with a bunch of great clients. We got a badass office space. I regained a little sanity and then lost some more. 2014 will be the first full year with the Polymyth team, and I’m excited to see what we can do.

This humble website was completely overhauled this year, bringing DanFinnen.com out of html hell and into the warm embrace of WordPress. It took me a while to build and I’m still working out the kinks, but the focus now is creating great stuff. In 2014 there’s going to be more reviews, articles, stories and general shenanigans going on here than you can shake a stick at. Assuming you generally shake sticks at things.

Oh man, so much else happened. I finally learned how to ride a bike at the ripe age of 25. My wonderful gma passed away at 94 and will be dearly missed. I went to Florida and sat on a beach for the second time in my life. I took an improv class at iO. I moved to a different apartment to escape the endless barrage of bros in Wrigleyville. I wrote a bunch of crap, started some big projects, and finished some others. My brother moved to Chicago. I started working out and I stopped working out. My business partner got married. Some dick cut out the catalytic converter out of the bottom of my car, and a different dick filled brakes with transmission fluid, proving yet again my cars are magnets for destruction. I got new toys to play with and shot a ton of pictures. And so much more.

So what does 2014 have in store? I’m doubling down on writing. In addition to finishing up a few full length plays I’ve been working on, I’m going to be working away at my first YA fiction series. After stepping back for the past year, I’m going to jump back into video directing with a new short film. I’ll continue stuffing this site chock full of all kinds of good stuff. I also plan on petting lots of dogs. And there’s probably some other stuff, but for now, let’s just go with the flow.

So happy 2014! If you’re in the northern hemisphere, stay warm. If you’re somewhere else… I’m so jealous.
