While I spend most of my time writing about analogue film cameras, I still shoot digital mirrorless for professional work. The Nikon Z6 has long been my workhorse main camera, and when the Z6 III came out I was frustrated that most of the comparisons being made were with expensive contemporary cameras like the Z8 and bodies from other Sony and Canon systems. I have a feeling most of the people who are considering the Z6 III are like me – people who have been shooting midrange Nikon full frame cameras for many years and debating their next upgrade.
Well, this review is for you all. I’ve based this on months of shooting my Z6 III in a variety of gigs and even shooting a full review video with the camera.
TLDR: The Nikon Z6 III is the major upgrade I’ve been waiting for, but the image quality is fundamentally almost identical to the original Z6. So if the Z6 III doesn’t have any features you specifically need, you can rest easy and keep using that Z6.
